Happy #FOIAFriday: a thread about some stuff we’ve been sitting on for a minute about ICE detention.

This week, @DHSOIG continued its wrecking ball on the poor supervision the agency gives contractors, and the serious human consequences when that happens.

It gets worse.
CoreCivic employee from Stewart Detention stalks and harasses a man all the way back to Mexico after he’s deported.
Guy at Stewart takes a removal order and three months pass before he’s deported. All on the taxpayer dime and into the pockets of CoreCivic.
Lest you think this problem began with this regime, here’s a heartbreaking complaint for a guy locked in Stewart, on behalf of his pregnant wife and 7 kids.
Lots going on here, arising from the criminal conviction of a CCA guard for smuggling drugs into Stewart
Apparent US Citizen locked away for months. (An N600 is an application for certificate of citizenship that you file once you’ve already gotten it. I’ve told this guy’s dad to submit it on his behalf, which, if true, means ICE thought he could be a citizen, too. False imprisonment
This one was tough to read:

“Claims he is being forced to work outside without a wheelchair which he needs.”
Guy takes voluntary departure under safeguards, buys his ticket home, DHS doesn’t let him get on the plane, and transfers him instead from Georgia to New Mexico, all at taxpayer expense.
Detained immigrant’s wife calling to complain that he’s not receiving medical care for the contagious, infectious illness he was diagnosed with at Stewart.
🚨if I’m reading this correctly, an *ICE* employee is calling to report *another ICE employe* sexually assaulting a detained immigrant at Stewart🚨
🚨A CCA employee reporting harassment and blackmail by the person monitoring compliance with the contract between CCA and ICE at Stewart🚨
Detained immigrant throwing up and excreting blood because the medical staff at Stewart and Krome can’t get on the same page about giving him Tylenol.
Complaint against a neurologist by a person locked up at Stewart
Imprisoned for 10 months after his deportation order because Bosnia wouldn’t issue a travel document. Deportation officer is “giving up” on his case and leaving him to sit in custody.
Failure to tear an ear infection leaves a detained immigrant unable to hear out of his left ear for 3 weeks.
Man’s taking prescribed meds that make him need to use the bathroom frequently. Ask to go during court because he can no longer hold it.

CCA guard says, “Okay, go to the restroom. But you will go to the hole, too.”

He’s been in solitary for 6 days when he makes the complaint
I can’t with this one . . .

He’s asking for his freedom because his wife died a few days before he was locked up, leaving his 7 year-old daughter with no one.
.@adc complains that Muslims are being removed from the Ramadan list at Stewart for disciplinary reasons.
8 months after his final order, man calls to complain he hasn’t been deported yet, and that the second stage of his required urologic surgery has not been scheduled because he keeps getting transferred.
Dude just wants a pair of socks.
So that’s what a little more than a month of intake calls about one facility looked like in 2015.

Little wonder @DHSOIG found some of the phones to this hotline inoperable when they inspected.
