Instead, Gbaja withdrew those funds for his own use, closed his practice in Georgia & fled jurisdiction to a country in West Africa where he ran for & got elected into the lucrative position of Member of Parliament (MP).

Some ppl speculate that Gbaja may have used some of the proceeds from these funds to fight his election into Parliament. Anyway, after getting elected into Parliament, Gbaja wired back the money to the client in 2006.

#FreeExpression is a foundational value in a democratic society because it makes choice possible between competing visions of how to organize society. It also makes it possible for citizens to convey their views to leaders, hold inform one another & hold govt to account
So, #FreeExpression is worth standing up for & defending. It also means those charged with regulating it have a high duty to do their job with a high sense of responsibility & due regard to the underlying constitutional & civic value in free expression

After the heroic sacrifices of valiant & ordinary citizens, the leadership of @_AfricanUnion is about to sit in idle complicity as the soldiers in the Transitional Military Council (TMC) launch a violent & bloody #SudanCounterRevolution. #Africans everywhere shd weigh in
Here is the #SitRep: Since the end of last month, the soliders in the TMC have been launched a rolling #InternetShutdown on Khartoum with the design to facilitate a #SudanCounterRevolution by constraining & ultimately cutting off the ability of the protests to co-ordinate
At the beginning of the week, on Monday, 3 June, about 05:00hrs Khartoum time, the TMC sent 1000s of armed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) soldiers, the Janjaweed militia & men in police uniforms using RSF trucks to disperse the sit-in.

To understand transphobia, we need to understand how it's not about difference but about a specific kind of difference that is intimately intertwined with other forms of oppression and population management.
This analysis ties back to my work in the University of Toronto Law Journal (doi.org/10.3138/utlj.2…). The full story is much more complex, but the simplified version is this: transphobia arises out of a systemic desire to rigidly police gender norms.
This desire to rigidly police gender norms is itself grounded in a desire to control women's reproductive capabilities (all people assigned female at birth are categorised as women under this perspective) as a means of population management.

1. Very good to see Taleb point to the real merit of EVs : Not usual EVs are green, eco friendly bhajan (they are not) . But that EVs age slower. Due to less moving parts. That is indeed true.
2. Infact that is the one real diff between EVs and ICE. Not green, not carbon footprint etc. Makes sense.

(1) A city of 3.7 million people, in a supposedly 1st world country, will literally run out of water within weeks.

It's not a case of may, might or would. Itt will. Climate change isn't the problem. Socialism is.

That's 18,500 people PER TAP.

Having armed guards won't make the sites safe or operational.
(3) If you thought conditions in Puerto Rico immediately after Hurricane Maria were bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. There will be riots and deaths. The military will be belatedly deployed but won't be able to cope with the scale of the crisis.
