I work with millionaires and the occasional billionaire and this is something that’s not discussed enough — a lot of them are very, very ... intellectually incurious, and we’re raised/lucked into a system that protects them from actual competition.
2) "But how do they survive in something as difficult or as competitive as banking?" The thing is, you've got a combo of systems that self-propagate and protect, and SINGLE FOCUS JOBS the system's designed to be fail-proof.

4) This is why you get things like the 2007 banking failure, by the way -- not because the number of consumers in the general population were feckless (that number is probably constant) but because the number of fuckwits IN THE SYSTEM crossed the structural tolerance line.
5) We really need to internalize the plutocrats as royal families, transnational. each with their own sinecures in which to stick the failsons, intersecting with mature, practically unkillable zaibatsu (in the Gibsonian not historical sense)
6) which is another chance for the evergreen: the animating purpose of representational democracy is to protect the rest of us from the whims of insane rich people. Everything else is wainscoting. xx
