1) Any opposition to DC statehood has to justify why Vermont and Wyoming get 2 Senators each while the greater number of American citizens living in DC are deprived of full representation. Merge them into another state, whatever -- but these people pay their taxes.
2) I actually don't care about "let's get 2 more Democratic Senators". Put 'em in Maryland, I don't care. Like my opposition to the Electoral College, it's not a matter of electoral advantage, it's that a corrosive vestige of the 1700's is undermining democratic standards.
3) Mainstream American political imagination is frozen in the 1950's. This is becoming a problem.
4) Also, the population drop-off in the states once you're out of the top ten is *nuts*.
