Bugger.
Incredible he lasted as long as he did really. He talked sense for a whole fortnight before Tory MPs shut him up.
About a week and a half longer than I'd have expected
Look, I've only one plea. And it is a plea. I'm begging here. Please don't let it be Johnson versus Hunt as the final two. My brain will wither and die.
I'm not saying this for politics. I'm saying it for emotional self-care.

This is reasonable and perceptive and I suspect many people will agree. I don't though. There's a difference between £250 for the NHS and GATT24: time and context.
In a referendum campaign, we're particularly susceptible to this tactic, as £350 claim showed. But here were are ina leader campaign where both candidates say they're open to no-deal.
The real referendum-like crunch point would come in an election on it, or if it was literally about to happen with a PM forcing it through. In other words, it's in the future.

Johnson tactic exactly the same as May. Say anything today to get to tomorrow. Deal with the fact you have made tomorrow harder when it happens.
Talking absolute shite on a deal with the EU, absolute shit on mini-deals., absolute shite on transition and absolute shite on Art24.
You can do that for a while. May managed it for well over a year. But eventually that shite will fall on you.

Corbyn to May in Commons just now: "In her view what would be worse: crashing out with no-deal in October or putting the issue back to the people for a final say?"
Pretty clear movement from Corbyn there. Not just the decision to raise it without being forced, but also use of 'final say', which is favoured wording of anti-Brexit groups (polls better).
Ends speech saying: "Whatever plan the new Tory leader comes up with, after three long years of failure they should have the confidence to go back to the people and let them decide the future of this country."

Okay, I don't want to keep raving about this wifi thing, but... this whole time I have been A Twitter Personality, anytime I really got into something I had to switch to my phone or go downstairs with my laptop or use cellular, and it really put a crimp in the whole "home office"
And when I set up my office space, I was primarily working in longer form writing (fiction and blog posts), and doing my writing offline, so I didn't need a persistent connection. It was only when Twitter became my online outlet that it became onerous to deal with.
Although now that I'm processing this, I'm remembering how much time/energy I actually spent fighting the wifi back then. I just put up with it because... that was my pattern. If something *almost* worked, I would keep trying it to find a way to make it work.

Have you heard of #Hotelling’s Law? In a two party system, it says that you get most votes by minimising the political distance between the parties. It’s worked well in the past, but it’s about to bring an end to both #Labour and the #Tory party. 1/n

Hotelling’s law worked really well for Tony #Blair. #Thatcher had moved the Tory party to the right, so #NewLabour had an opportunity to increase its vote share by also moving rightwards. 2/n
Politics had shifted. Both parties held broadly similar policies. Blair’s political stance, although to the left of Thatcher’s, was much further right than any Labour leader previously (or since). Labour was able to capture ground that the Tories had left unguarded. 3/n

Theresa May is likely to face huge pressure next week to tack to a customs union-based Brexit.

If she does, Tory MPs believe she will “break” the Conservative Party.

“It would be worse than the corn laws, don’t kid yourself,” one senior MP said.

Backbench Tories are split on how the PM could/should respond if a majority of MPs back a customs union at indicative votes on Monday.

Some think she could just dismiss the vote (sure to go down well).

One MP: “She could just ignore it. She is the Government.”
Others believe she may have little choice but to engage with the idea if other options are closed off.

In that scenario the backlash from many Tory MPs would be swift and severe.

A letter with lots of signatures demanding PM’s resignation would be almost guaranteed.

I understand a group cabinet ministers will go to see the PM tmrw AM to demand she rules out a long extension. Requests have also gone in for her to appear before the 1922 at 5pm. I’m told anger among Brexiters has spilled over & PM will be told they’ll not tolerate a long delay.
I’m told by two Tory sources that if the PM doesn’t agree to rule out a long Brexit extension then she will be “absolutely hammered” in front of the 1922 committee. I’m also told one Tory MP is preparing to ask the PM to resign during PMQs if she refuses to rule out a long delay.
There was “open revolt in the tea rooms” today according to Tory MPs, “from people you would not expect.” One MP says “the plates are shifting. Total breakdown between No10 and the Parliamentary party.” Another says “if she doesn’t agree to this then she is gone.”
