He's referring to the post WWII era when "our country had no debt." That period of "no debt" would be that spike on the left side of this chart of the debt to GDP ratio.
Also, we paid for that military and those highways, in part, with a top marginal tax rate of 91%.
And here are the historical tariff rates. There's a slight bump in the 30's through the 50s...but not enough to bear the weight he would like it to.
As with most things with this guy, he's just making sh*t up because he knows his supporters will believe him. The fact that he's getting even more shameless about just saying the exact opposite of what is true should alarm any citizen who cares about reality.
And as with most things with this guy, he's just vague enough (what actual time period is he talking about?) that the folks on Fox and Friends will be able to twist this into a statement that makes some vague sense for their few viewers who actually care about reality.
Everyone (well, some people) loves a good bullshitter when they’re sitting next to you at the bar and you’re bored. But if you need a contractor to fix your roof, you definitely do NOT hire that bullshitter to do the work.
