When I look at these stats from @SCOTUSBlog, it seems just about certain that Chief Roberts will write in the partisan gerrymandering cases. (I've said earlier I expect Alito to have the census case)
And just a reminder about the stakes in the census case (me @Slate)

If J. Alito writes the majority opinion in the census case upholding use of the citizenship question despite evidence it was put in to reduce Latino voting strength, I expect J. Sotomayor would write a dissent and would not be surprised to see the words "white supremacy" in it.
Remember that there are TWO partisan gerrymandering cases, a Republican one from North Carolina and a Democratic one from Maryland. I'd be astounded if the Court decides them differently. But it could find both of these unconstitutional w/ a test allowing most other gerrymanders.
