Full disclosure: As a Palestinian, this opinion piece has actually changed my mind. It has convinced me that no peace is possible with the current Israeli ruling elite. We are in a deeply existential battle not only for our human rights but for our very identity.
From my many conversations and interactions with Israelis I can now see that there are two Israels. One is an Israel that is a safe haven and cultural homeland for the Jewish people. Another is an Israel which is a sophisticated, well-oiled machine of institutional repression.
Peace is only possible with the first Israel. No peace is possible with the second Israel. For peace, the second one has to be uprooted and dismantled, something that neither Israel's ruling elites nor the majority of its electorate will choose.
And this is what the op-ed has convinced me of. There will be no peace. There can be no peace between the knife and the neck. There can only be resistance.
(I thought that there are still Israeli centrists who can think somewhat rationally and realize that a just and sustainable peace is actually in their favor. I can now see that this is delusional. There are no partners, only colonial masters).
