Humans must create fair systems of energy use, and consume and waste the absolute bare minimum if we want to survive.

So WHAT EXACTLY DO WE DO?

We have to get the word out using social media.

51-100👇
51. It's morally abhorrent to let billions of poor, vulnerable humans, mostly in Asia, Africa, Central & South America, suffer and die as Earth's climate & ecosystems collapse. Non-human animals must also be saved. A transformation of political & economic systems is now required.
52. Is is really that bad?

Yes.

Massive catastrophe is unavoidable - it's about to explode into everyone's lives, probably before 2029, certainly by the mid 2030s.

We must inform ourselves and then inform others to create unprecedented change.

See threads for the reality:👇
53. Here is a thread of 15 threads, demonstrating how extraordinarily terrifying our predicament has become. Don't let it freeze you. Only by accepting how horrific the situation is, do we then accept the need for, and contribute to, radical transformation:
54.

Most people on the planet will struggle to survive in the 2020s and beyond simply because water and food will become increasingly scarce:
55. Global warming is not gradual.

We can no longer avoid feedbacks like permafrost collapse and Arctic Ice Loss, meaning very soon we will hit a catastrophic average temperature rise of 2°C (3.6° Fahrenheit).

4° Celsius (7.2° Fahrenheit) looks likely:
56. When we grasp the complexities of this ecological emergency and how rapidly the Earth is changing, it becomes clear that only total system change - away from corporate capitalism & towards genuine cooperation - could possibly allow decent survival now:
57. If we can accept that capitalism is destroying us and must be replaced, we see that only political organising/rebellion are appropriate responses.

Can we vote out capitalism? Maybe not, but we must try.

So vote for system change eg Bernie, Corbyn etc
58. We urgently need vigorous debate about ideas such as postgrowth economics, libertarian/democratic ecosocialism, communalism & anarchism, all over TV and radio, in newspapers and in books by both new & established thinkers.

But corporate media won't allow it.

Talk on here!
59. Given the extraordinary changes required, it can be hard to know what to do.

See this thread for ideas:

"While it may not still be possible to ensure safety and survival for anyone, it’s worth working to save lives, human and non-, until we can’t"
60. So, we need a global economy that makes burning fossil fuels illegal, & replaces industrial agriculture with sustainable agroecology/permaculture + ecologically sound infrastructure which protects everyone (state-corporate media won't talk about this).
61. The old systems, where a minority of humans overconsume & waste at staggering rates are the root issue, NOT overpopulation. Current systems would wreck the planet with only a billion people.

Change the system to allow for common sense, and any population issues are resolved.
62. Nuclear power is obviously too dangerous in an overheating world of collapse and extreme weather.

Renewables seem necessary, but rely on mining and other damaging process, so only total lifestyle/culture change to low energy use will work.

See here: fairobserver.com/region/north_a…
63. Using less energy and doing so fairly is going to take a shift in how we think about ourselves as a species. Nothing's impossible.

Worth considering this on nuclear power:

and:
futurism.com/climate-change…
and on nuclear weapons👇:
64. So what else is crucial? Well, we'll need some sort of a global ceasefire if we're to create the conditions for genuine international co-operation.

Furthermore, it is profoundly illogical to think we can continue to live in a world of resource wars.
65. By now you may be thinking that we're doomed and I wouldn't blame you, however, amazing changes have happened throughout history - this is a world in flux.

The key is informing people fully so that they can act.

Are you aware of aerosols?👇

66. Did you know that scientists realise catastrophic temperature rise of 2°C and then 3°C will definitely happen?

People deserve to know this, and many brilliant scientists communicate via social media to get scientific reality into public discourse.👇

67. A critical problem to talk about is that

'scientists are biased...toward cautious estimates, where we define caution as erring on the side of less rather than more alarming predictions. We call this tendency “erring on the side of least drama (ESLD).” sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
68. So, scientists don't discuss their worst fears in public.

Thread a)

Also important: the science of the @IPCC_CH which corporate media & governments focus on, is years behind the reality of feedbacks like permafrost.

Thread b)
69. Given the dire situation, many suggest geoengineering is now necessary. I actually suspect this is true, HOWEVER, with today's political-economic systems this is just an excuse to avoid real change.

In any case, we need total transformation by 2022.👇
70. Veganism seems an appropriate philosophy as it's essentially about treating this natural world of sentient beings with care & compassion. The corporations which dominate the meat/dairy industries are certainly as ecocidal as they are directly cruel.

.
71. Whatever your feelings about becoming vegan, scientists say that the people of the rich Global North must reduce their cow meat consumption by 90%.

Eating pig or chicken meat is no better for the environment. See here:

And here
72. Many humans on the planet could give up eating fish/seafood immediately without any problem. Given the destruction of the Ocean by corporations who put profit before Life, that would appear to be the right move.

Shocking thread.👇
73. Whatever your eating habits, try to join any General Strike.

The #FridaysforFuture demos in Sept 2019 are organised around the idea of a general strike.

100s of millions of people must get engaged in the coming months if real change is to happen.

74. It is via social media - for all it's flaws - that people are beginning to understand the scientific reality of ecological collapse. Here is my Pinned Tweet from March '19.

The more people tweeting about the Sixth Mass Extinction the better. Go for it.
75. How many people know that Aviation is killing life on Earth?

How many realise how dangerous flights are becoming on this ever-heating planet?

76. Construction: we have to stop building like this if we want to survive.

How?
77. Corporate Media.

This is critical.⚠️

But who will acknowledge the fact that our 'free press' is incapable of putting the truth before profits?

Please read:👇
78. Ecosystems are collapsing all around us but people have no sense of it. In a sane society this would be the big talking point:
79. Everybody should be talking about the Sixth Mass Extinction.

a)

Every species is now critically endangered

b)
80. Arctic Ice Disaster.

The planet we think we're living on no longer exists:
82. Death of the Amazon Rainforest.

The Amazon won't survive the temperature extremes that will occur within just a few decades.

a)

If the rainforests go, the planet may no longer be suitable for decent human existence.

b)
83. Mass starvation is here (ask the people of Yemen, Somalia, Kenya, N. Korea) and about to get worse.

Simultaneous global crop failure looks likely sooner rather than later.

This is never front page news.
84. The global financial system is killing us all. It's just mind-boggling.

Banks are knowingly financing our demise:
87. Every year vast areas of forest are obliterated:

This means the destruction of whole ecosystems, as well as locking in climate calamity:

Industrial agriculture is driving deforestation:
88. Propaganda. This is perhaps the most important word when looking at why no action is being taken.

89. Revolution.

We've only months or years left to act, not decades. I don't see elections being enough, so I'd imagine some kind of revolution is in the pipeline. I advocate non-violence, though history shows genuine self defence often involves force.
