1. A Canadian style Brexit trade deal (aka a reasonably comprehensive free trade agreement*) would have to be negotiated *after* a withdrawal agreement is settled, unless the EU is persuaded to change the sequence.

3. What happens on Oct 31? Sorting this out will surely take much longer.
But Falconer was hired by Liam Fox to be his top official on trade negotiations in the International Trade Department (DIT).
DIT's role was negotiations with other countries, but specifically not the EU.
Since DIT was not involved but was the agency that hired Falconer, it cannot be true that May "sidelined" him.
Interesting to see what comes of this / ends
