Just did an interview with Abdul Aziz Muhamat, a refugee recently granted asylum by Switzerland. Where did he flee from? He fled from Australia's concentration camp in Manus Island, where he had been illegally detained for 6 years.
Prosperous European nations are now granting people asylum after they escape persecution and unlawful imprisonment by Australia
The details of Abdul Aziz Muhamat's escape are telling. He was granted a special temporary visa to Switzerland to accept the prestigious Martin Ennals Award for human rights defenders. Once in Geneva, he lodged a claim for asylum. In June his claim was approved.
In the interview, he discussed at length his recent speech to the UN Human Rights Council criticising Australia's cruel and inhuman concentration camps in Manus and Nauru. In a bitter irony, Australia is the current chair of the UN Human Rights Council.
Muhamat was there on the night Reza Berati was murdered. His interview openly describes Manus and Naura as "concentration camps" and discusses the "lie" that is Australia's policy of offshore detention. He is especially critical of Wilson Security and Peter Dutton.
My interview with Abdul Aziz Muhamat airs on Tuesday morning on @3RRRFM
