So here is what's happening...
1. Neoliberalism is failing, and people are getting upset.
2. The violent/extreme right-wing is responding with ethno-nationalism, and a harsh crackdown on those impacted by global capitalism.
3. The wealthy and the media support no. 2 because 💰

This same exact story played out just a few years ago in Hungary, and it brought right-wing extremist Viktor Orbán into power. Look him up, and do some research on how he took power.
Today, the United States murders people with flying robots, backs right-wing coups in transparent oil-grabs, separates families, jails actual journalists who report on their crimes, and puts refugees from the crises it creates into concentration camps.
Meanwhile, the right-wing isn't satisfied with this international violence. They have *fascist* groups like Proud Boys and Patriot Prayer (backed by soft losers and dishonest propagandists like Andy Ngo) take weapons into left-leaning cities to try to provoke a confrontation.
The media doesn't really report on the violence of these contemporary fascist groups (there is plenty). But *if* one of those right-wingers gets hurt in a confrontation, a lot of 💰 is poured into amplifying it, because the right-wing wants to commit violence against the left.
What you end up with is a political alignment where people with 💰 team up with violent ethno-nationalists to commit violence against the left (never really reported). The wealthy and their body-guards team up, and everyone else suffers.
The right-wing news outlets pretty much openly celebrate violence against the left. The Republicans have worked to pass bills making it legal to murder protesters with your car, and FOX News has openly celebrated instances of cars running down leftists. money.cnn.com/2017/08/15/med…
Keep in mind that these violent right-wing extremists have *already* killed and injured people with this tactic. In fact, it happened at a "Unite the Right" rally that was backed by the violent Proud Boys (the same people Andy Ngo is always defending). usatoday.com/story/news/201…
As Michael notes in the comments, there are a few other places where similar stuff has happened very recently, and it always follows this same pattern.
It has also happened all over Latin America, where the wealthy elite (with the USA's backing) repeatedly hires and sponsors right-wing death squads to kill leftists and indigenous activists. See Nicaragua, Chile, El Salvador, Colombia, etc. Go to the library to read more.
