NEW: Former leadership candidate @SamGyimah says there are more than thirty Tory MPs who will support legislative methods to block the new PM going for a no deal Brexit #ridge
@SamGyimah This tallies with what my colleague @tamcohen was told earlier this week - that the Chancellor was leading a 30 strong group of MPs to thwart a no deal Brexit:

But @SamGyimah says he would not vote against the next Tory govt in a confidence motion. However he says he knows some colleagues who are considering it. He isn't commenting on whether there are enough for the govt to fall though #ridge

I was the reporter in the Theresa May event just now (doing it on behalf of all broadcasters - we didn’t get any inside track, was just our turn).

For transparency:

One small private room
Two video cameras
Two stills cameras
One reporter (me) who was allowed one question
I think it’s worth putting this stuff out there so you can all get the full feel of the event. Very different from other campaigning events I’ve been to. Only a few MEPs there and no other supporters.
Here’s the press at the event. Sky pool camera for all broadcasters, PA camera, two snappers and me (on behalf of all news outlets).

NEW: At the grassroots National Conservative Convention in Oxford - 80% of attendees have voted for there to be no delay to Brexit and for 'no deal' to be left on the table. Clear message there and totally the opposite of what the Rudd/Gauke/Clark piece today calls for #Brexit
The National Convention is the governing body of the Tory voluntary wing. So lots of on-the-ground activists and constituency members. Today’s vote is not binding in any way but sends a clear message from the grassroots that they don’t want a delay to #Brexit
So if I was a Conservative MP calling for a Brexit delay with a slim majority in a leave voting constituency, I might be a bit worried

Watched the #Brexit proceedings from a distance today.

Beyond all the sound and fury, my main impression from today is that sadly the probability of no deal has risen signficantly, and UK-EU relations are very likely to turn sour.
First, Theresa May has clearly reneged on the deal she negotiated, and lost more trust on the way. If there was one way to prove that a legally binding backstop was necessary, the UK governments walkover its previous commitment ranging back from December 2017 provided one.
Second, while the House of Commons today did vote against a no deal scenario, the majority against a no deal #Brexit was not only very slim, the House also rejected all other workable compromises. This is not enough to stop the merciless logic of no deal.

No10 says EU must decide if it will release a letter of assurances before the vote on Tuesday but EU sources tell me they are waiting for the go-ahead advice from Downing Street 1
The letter could have been released Saturday night ahead of No10 Sunday media blitz but wasn’t .. It could be released tonight or tomorrow ahead of vote .. OR EU/No10 may decide better not since 2
The EU letter will I’m told contain assurances/explanations of current deal and nothing new. The letter would come from Juncker/Tusk in Brussels and they can’t change the #Brexit deal without negotiation with and go ahead from 27 EU leaders 3
