The topic isn't being charged with a crime of the massive efforts by Democrats to teach illegal immigrants the law and their rights. There has never been a democrat effort like that for millions of young Black men (overwhelmingly in progressive cities) herded into legal system
where they meet an overworked public defender 15 minutes before meeting a judge and are often offered two options - neither of which is fighting back legally. Young, afraid and many expecting to go to the joint at some point they accept "justice" that further crushes their life
California invented the three strikes policy, NYC shoe horns as many into Rikers Island and other places. Ironically, the anger over this somehow goes to the most powerful republican at the time, never democrats actually caging Black men that never really know their rights
Making matters even worse is hard core violent felons get light sentences and allowed to return to the streets to reign terror while non-violent convictions are often given longer sentences that leads to hopelessness and bitter anger. This is why I'm thrilled with First Step Act
Many more steps are needed. meanwhile, when will democrats educate the people they are tossing in jails of their Constitutional rights? When will they provide educations needed to truly escape poverty and resist desperation? The hypocrisy is only exceeded by the sadness.
