The pedestal mentality “overwhelmingly benefited white women in the South overwhelmingly. It’s how they asserted what little power they had. It was based on this status as morally superior but fragile. They shouldn’t be involved in public life,had to be protected & taken care of”
The political implications resonate in voting patterns of white women. The “gender gap” -that claims women vote Democrat- is a myth. You must disaggregate by region & race. “Because w/Southern white women, if you pull them out of a national sample, your gender gap is way bigger.

The question for white women then must be: who protects you from white men like Trump and Pence et al? Do you want protection or is the power - via whiteness - and the financial gains - via man as breadwinner mentality - too enticing and too good to let go.
