Here’s a tale about how a cupboard and social media made actual magic happen for my three year old daughter, Rachel. (Thread) #fairystory
Every morning on our walk to nursery my three year old asks me what this little three foot door is for and I had no answers for her. Then one day I told her fairies lived there. Oh my life. An obsession was born. #fairystory
Every day since, she’s asked if she can visit the fairies. Here is is asking for the gazillioneth time. I had to tell her fairies are terribly shy and don’t like visitors. But that didn’t deter her. #fairystory
So last week I asked my friends on Facebook if I should knock on the house this little door belongs to and ask if I could have access to it to leave a note from the fairies and some fairy dust. #fairystory Full post here: facebook.com/Sarah.Stimson.…
The general consensus was I should knock and ask. But I felt a total dick, so instead I shared my post on a local community Facebook group #fairystory
A lovely lady called Susie then messaged me to say she knew the mum of the lady who lives in the house with the fairy door and she was going to go and talk to her! #fairystory
The mum went to ask her daughter, Julie, if we could have access to the door. Then she went back to Susie #fairystory
In the meantime I decided we’d write a letter to the Queen of the Fairies and ask if we could visit. If Julie said we couldn’t (which would be totally fair enough!) I could send a letter back to Rachel from the Queen letting her down gently. #fairystory
So we wrote the letter (using lots of fairy stickers, naturally) #fairystory
And posted it the next day #fairystory
(My mum was concerned it wouldn’t arrive anywhere but I said I was sure @RoyalMail could find Fairland 😉 )
I also tried to prepare Rachel for the possibility that we wouldn’t be able to visit the fairies. But her reaction when I said “what if they say no?” Was heartbreaking!
Then, Susie messaged me with Julie’s phone number and a message that she would do anything we need to get access to the door. Operation Fairy was on! #fairystory
I managed to have a chat with Julie on the phone and she could not have been kinder about it. We arranged for me to go and set up a little fairy dell behind the door #fairystory
So I crocheted some little fairy bunting and gathered together some other bits and pieces to put in the fairy dell #fairystory
On Sunday night I went to the fairy door to set up the dell. When I opened it I found this! Julie and her husband Paul had already cleaned it out and added little slices of tree stump, tree bark and some pretty flowers. How gorgeous is that! #fairystory
I added all my bits and pieces - some fairy dolls and their pets a hedgehog, squirrel and frog. Some bunting. Some fairy wings and wand, and a letter to Rachel from the Queen of the Fairies #fairystory
I added a padlock to the door too #fairystory
This morning, we walked to nursery as normal@ as we approached the door I realised Susie, the lady who put me in touch with the owner, was waiting across the road phone in hand. She’d come to take photos of us opening the door! #fairystory
Which meant I could concentrate on Rachel rather than trying to juggle my phone to take pictures. (Susie is one of my new favourite people) #fairystory
We got to the door and Rachel noticed the lock. I told her the Fairy Queen had sent me the key and we could open it up. #fairystory
She was totally blown away! She wanted to go into Fairyland so off she went #fairystory
We opened the letter from the Queen of the Fairies #fairystory
Which said the fairies are moving to our garden (so we wouldn’t bother Julie and Paul any more!) #fairystory
She collected her little fairy dolls and their pets #fairystory
And put on her fairy wings #fairystory
And collected her wand #fairystory
Then went to nursery and was SO excited to tell her friends about her visit to the fairies #fairystory
I went and met Julie, the owner of the house to say thank you very much for letting us use her cupboard. And the lovely Susie sent me all the photos. #fairystory
Then tonight, Rachel discovered the fairies had moved into our garden #fairystory
And that is the tale of how a cupboard and social media made magic happen for my three year old daughter, Rachel (end of thread) #fairystory
Well this has gone a bit mad. I've no soundcloud, but I do have lovely beach huts to hire at the coast in Essex. waltononthenazebeachhuts.com
