I've been a keen follower of World’s history and religions & their origin. I have read numerous books, articles on religion, practices, rituals than you can imagine. Thus writing a thread to enlighten you on the origin and journey of world’s most practiced and followed religions
Centuries back the world was deprived of religions. There were beliefs, customs, rituals but organized, defined & documented religions were not in existence except Hinduism which goes back to the Indus Valley civilization
Indus Valley civilization, also known as Harappan civilization and traces of Hinduism, idols of deities, books were found after its excavation, its study & research. This civilization I believe belongs to some 5000-6000 years old
May be people of that era were too busy in their struggle to survive & also in producing babies that they didn’t have time for religion. Then around 500-600 BC, Mr Gautum Buddha who was an emperor, a Hindu by religion, looked at the world and thought of creating a new religion
He thought creating & developing a new religion was such a wonderful startup idea, this field is open, unexplored, totally barren with scope in abundance. He didn’t take much time, he was an entrepreneur & to add it, he was not short of capital
In almost the same era somewhere else in India itself one Mr. Mahavir, a brilliant scholar, too was working and progressing well in the similar startup of creating a religion
It’s believed once Gauti met Mahi & they had a long discussion. Though they were competitors yet there was no rivalry between them. They did a wise and practical thing, they divided their geographies so that both can move ahead, make and have their own disciples & followers
Mahi told Gauti that since their basic ideas were same like non violence, honesty & stuff like that thus they should make practices & rituals to be followed by their followers different from each other
“How would it work?”, Gauti asked. “It’s simple, I’d tell my disciples to not eat onions & garlic” Mahi replied. “And I’d ask my followers to create monasteries, shave their head, learn Kung Fu & eat Chowmein” Gauti said before having a drink together
