1/ Explaining this House rules brouhaha --

Speaker Pelosi said on the floor that everyone “should join us in condemning the president's racist tweets” ...
2/ Jefferson's Manual & Rules of the House of Representatives specifically says one cannot refer to the president as “having made a bigoted or racist statement.”

3/ Majority Leader Hoyer read the ruling that Pelosi’s comments were indeed out of order.

Democratic-controlled House then voted against striking Pelosi's comments from the record.

The vote was 190 - 232, party line vote with independent Amash joining Dems

2/ Asked if she and her colleagues need extra security, @AOC said: “Those are conversations we are certainly having right now. It’s part of a conversation, it’s an active conversation we are having with the caucus in figuring out what extra security precautions will be taken.”
3/ “I don’t feel safer today then I did yesterday. As each day goes on, the Republican Party’s targeted attacks and Trump’s targeted attacks puts us further in danger. We have been saying this and yesterday it escalated to a very large degree,” @AOC said.

House Democrats appeared unified in their votes this week but I've spent the day talking to a bunch of them and many are extremely frustrated. All agree POTUS's tweets needed to be condemned; they spoke under condition of anonymity so they could be candid. (Thread)

BREAKING: Speaker Pelosi sends letter to President Trump suggesting they postpone his State of the Union address until after the government has been reopened, or deliver the address in writing, a practice that was common in the 1800s and early 1900s.
JUST IN: In tit-for-tat response, President Trump informs Speaker Pelosi via letter that her foreign trip to Brussels, Egypt and Afghanistan "has been postponed" until after the government shutdown is over, unless she uses commercial travel.
White House official says Speaker Pelosi and delegation were set to use military aircraft for foreign trip, which allowed the president to halt the movement.

The letter also reveals travel plans, including a visit to a war zone, for person who is second in line to presidency.
