Yay! The NI bill amendment passes 315 by to 274. Makes it much harder for Boris Johnson to prorogue Parliament. (I am sure his team will beaver away immediately to find loopholes.) It took far, far too long, but finally the HOC has found its backbone! And a gigantic margin.
Margo James (ex-Minister of State for Digital and the Creative Industries) is the newest Tory rebel, having resigned her position to vote for the amendment.
And in a classic nose thumb, Philip Hammond popped his head out of Number 11 just as the vote was called just to make it totally clear he was abstaining.
It does very gently signpost the way towards a real prospect that Parliament will stop no deal dead. What is not clear yet is which means they will choose to do so. But at least it looks like they may have one or more opportunities to do so.
And a huge number of Ministers ignored the 3-line whip and abstained. We should be able to see who in a few minutes.
