Yesterday hundreds of thousands of people from across Nicaragua gathered in the capital Managua for an all-day celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution

It was one of the largest demonstrations I have seen in my life

Report coming soon at @GrayzoneProject
@GrayzoneProject Sandinismo is a very powerful and popular force in Nicaragua. The working-class population in Managua overwhelmingly supports it. We walk down the streets and random people come up and shout, "Tell the media to stop lying! We love our gov!" (The same thing happened in Venezuela)
@GrayzoneProject Countless Nicaraguans traveled far from other cities and towns. For hours yesterday morning, I saw torrents of people crammed in buses and cars, waving FSLN flags, all coming to celebrate the anti-imperialist revolution.

The corporate media is not interested in these Nicaraguans
@GrayzoneProject US and European media reporting on Nicaragua is overwhelmingly extremely biased, right-wing, and frankly racist. When it's not ignoring the millions of working-class Nicaraguans who strongly support the Sandinista movement, it treats them like stupid authoritarian automata.
@GrayzoneProject Corporate media reporting on Nicaragua absurdly calls the FSLN government a dictatorship, even though it was democratically elected — even though this democratically elected government has made many concessions to the extremely violent, right-wing, US-funded/supported opposition.
@GrayzoneProject In fact a common critique you hear from staunch Sandinistas is that the government has bent over backward in its peace and reconciliation process, making many concessions. But the suffocating effects of US sanctions and opposition violence forced the gov. to heavily compromise.
@GrayzoneProject But although you wouldn't know it from corporate media reporting, Nicaragua's Sandinista movement is still thriving 40 years after the 1979 revolution against a US-backed dictatorship — especially among the youth, who were born well after the revolution and have benefited from it
