A thought about balanced XLR interconnects vs traditional unbalanced RCAs... I’ve long thought about trying this, and I finally have (at a very reasonable price). Cc @Uncle_Jimbo
What you hear online is two opinions: (1) it won’t matter at all, or (2) XLRs lower the noise, creating more black backgrounds to the music, and tighter bass.

I discovered that (2) is what happened in my case. The XLR does remove an amount of ambient bass-iness (vs actual bass)
Maybe the right word is “boominess” that I didn’t really even realize was there until I switched from RCA to XLR. I’m going to give it a few days and switch back, just to investigate further. Since I’ve got Tone controls on the preamp, I can fix anything I’m not crazy about.
But having the cleanness of the XLR interconnects is pretty cool. It’s not a clinical sound, but it’s surprisingly different.

Bottom line: at a certain price point (and sensitivity/quality of your gear) some cables really do make a difference.
