Yesterday, one of my students had trouble concentrating in class bc Centrelink suspended his payment minutes before. His employer was late with his payslip so he couldn’t forward it on before a deadline #NotaDoleBludger
Just one case of a young person trying to juggle work, study and everyday life losing out in a system that is designed to withhold as much welfare support as possible from people who need it
People are kicked off support bc Centrelink seizes any reason (and often no reason at all) to suspend payments. Budget cuts and outsourcing means that it’s difficult to navigate the welfare system and correct errors—and that’s the govt’s whole strategy
