"In the first five months of the year, the UK exported almost £152 million of [sheep meat] to the EU, and around £5 million outside the EU. The EU accounts for 97% of British sheep meat exports." So we're giving up 97% of our export market to grow the 3%?!

Giving up 97% of something so that you can expand the share of the pie occupied by the 3% isn't opportunity, it's stupidity. Because you've first got to make up the 97% just to get back to the status quo (which will take decades) before you see a penny of benefit.
It's like you have two part-time jobs. One pays £9,700 a year and the other £300 a year.
In what universe would you give up the one paying £9,700 a year in the hope of being able to wring a few more hours out of the one currently paying you £300?Because that's the trade-off.

But cowardly politicians hide behind the "people have voted" line, rather than spell out how absurd it is to be contemplating such a lopsided tradeoff.
MPs should be doing the job they were elected to, ie working in the best interests of their constituents. Brexit ain't that.
