Today is of course the 105th anniversary of the start of World War One. My aunt was born that day and as my grandfather emerged into the streets he discovered that war had broken out...
He went on to fight in that war, got blown up and buried alive at the Somme as an officer in the RA... recovered and went back again. Never got over the trauma of it. Would wake up screaming for the rest of his life. Reenlisted in WW2 - a war in which my father also fought...
I'm sitting here in my garden with my 14 year old son and all of that is history now. I've not had to fight in a war and I hope he won't either. All of this peace and security came at a massive price in life and suffering and years of negotiations to ensure it didn't happen again

So here's the first 50 Prospective Parliamentary candidates for the Brexit party. Just 8 are women. A good many are either MEPs or failed MEP candidates. I'd be fascinated to know how many got in through the elaborate online process
The most interesting thing about this list is that very few of the lesser known people have a strong social media presence.... funny that
Brexit Party candidate Axel Robert Thill standing in Dominic Raab's constituency appears to be an EU migrant. In 1998 he had German nationality.... wasn't a British nationalist available

In 2016 Boris Johnson's new digital adviser Chloe Westley enthusiastically backed renowned racist Ann Marie Waters who had just set up Pergida UK with one Tommy Robinson.

I see Westley has been deleting old tweets including this.
Anne Marie Waters and her party For Britain are considered so toxic and racist that The Brexit party won't let former supporters of it sign up
This is a summary of the book Westley was hoping Anne Marie Waters would get published. Is it appropriate that Boris Johnson's new digital adviser was backing this Islamophobic stuff?

- so if UK either accepts NI-only backstop,

- or if all UK remained aligned in a way that makes border

Last week I looked into a montage that the @BBCPolitics had used to argue people knew a vote to leave meant leaving the Single Market.

It didn’t hold water, but there is always the possibility that people would hear what was said and assume.

So based on the Andrew Marr argument that “You can’t say people didn’t know”, I looked at the behaviour of politicians after the vote in that context.

For example, this was Chris Grayling saying “No, we’ve just voted to leave the Single Market”.

1/ Iain Duncan Smith (IDS) continues to portray East Europeans as a burden on the British welfare system. Has he got a point or is it just more xenophobic stereotyping?
2/ Iain Duncan Smith is relying on @MigrationWatch data to claim that EU citizens are claiming £4bn in benefits per year, more than half (£2bn) of it in-work benefits. Adding in child benefit, a universal benefit, is disingenuous and shall be discounted here.
3/ Iain Duncan Smith then goes on and lays the blame straight at the East European EU citizens from 10 former communist countries also known as EU10. Pointing out that these citizens receive more in-work benefits than the average British employee
