Reminder: in 2016, an unprecedented thing happened. The Senate GOP agreed to link a terrorism watch list to a gun sales ban.

So why don't we have a gun sales ban linked to the a terrorism watch list? Every single Senate Democrat voted against the bill. texastribune.org/2016/06/20/aft…
I wrote about it at the time, particularly how unprecedented it was for the GOP to agree to even a partial gun sales ban.

But rather than agree to the incremental gun control measures Republicans proposed, the Democrats chose to pass no gun control legislation at all.
Btw, while voting *against* a GOP bill linking a terrorism watch list to a gun sales ban, Sen. Murphy sleazed that Senate Republicans “have decided to sell weapons to ISIS.”

Lest there be any doubt, Democrats aren't serious about gun control. They' just like the talking point.

What is the evidence that HR8—the House's background checks legislation—if it had been law, would have altered the outcomes in Gilroy, El Paso, or Dayton?

As with the flawed "white supremacy is like ISIL" analogy, it seems counterproductive to neener neener over empty bills.
(Also, let's assume for the sake of the hypo that the effective date of HR8, if it had passed the Senate, would have been amended to be somewhat less than 210 days it called for.

HR8 wouldn't have been in effect yet, even if it passed the Senate and was signed the next day.)
If this is accurate, then the answer to my question, would the House-passed background check legislation that Sen. Schumer is demanding the Senate hold an emergency session to pass have made a difference, is "no."

No "loophole" to close. If this is accurate.

Evidence so far that the El Paso killer was part of a white supremacist group?

I'm not asking if he was a white supremacist; clearly, he is.

But if we're going to analogize to Al Qaeda or ISIL, which seems to be the Hot New Idea, we've gotta be able to name the group.
The thing about Al Q and ISIL and their factions is that these are discrete groups. We can say, with respect to particular individuals, that they are members of the group.

What group was the El Paso killer part of? Is it distinguishable from other communities he was a part of?
Thank you for demonstrating my point. "Let's call the group MAGA" is unserious and counterproductive if your aim is to actually prevent more deaths.

A thread of comparison.
There's a lot of talk about Kavanaugh's testimony--did he lie? Did he show himself to be hyper partisan? Unjudicious?
In my opinion, he did all of that. But for the sake of argument, imagine that Kavanaugh is innocent of the worst charges.
All his accusers are misguided at best, liars at worst.
He's getting a raw deal of the worst kind--a smear job.
Wouldn't that justify partisan outrage?
That's what conservative Twitter is saying, over and over. That his rage and bitterness are natural.
You can't crucify a man and expect him not to complain angrily.
Which takes us to Merrick Garland.
Like BK, he worked his whole life to get a SC nomination.
And did.
