Hey, so long story, but I recently tried to find my father, whom I’ve never met. I learned he died last year, but I found out I have five siblings. I am planning to meet one of them for the first time on Saturday. Tell me positive stories of finding “new” family?
Additional context: My father was Jamaican. I was raised by my white Catholic mother in small town KY. All my siblings were raised in Jamaica & most still live there. I am therefore meeting & getting to know my black family for the first time in my life.
Have I mentioned this summer has been WILD? This family stuff, plus going up for tenure, may be contributing to my midlife crisis & intense furvor for hot girl summer fun.

Update: I have been on this plane on the ground for 50 minutes with no estimate of when we will move. There is a toddler who is now just wailing/screaming/asserting “NO!” in varying intonations between crying.

White folks. Stop saying #ToniMorrison wrote for everyone. She wrote for us, for black folks & most especially black women. She literally said in an interview “I write for black women.” Period. Full stop. Her work was not *for* you, you just got the privilege to read it.

Generally my father in law does not introduce me to his friends for investment guidance. 1. Because generally I am extremely blunt when it comes to investment guidance 2. I only mostly explain #risks involved
But I think his friend really forced him so he finally introduced me to this gentleman who retired from government service, has good pension and also has a frugal life style so has lot of money saved. He wanted to invest his just matured FD into a MF because FD rates were low.
After few minutes of talking to him I realised he had never invested any money in #stocks #mfs or any equity instruments ever. As I continued I realised that he wanted to invest this money for a long term and wanted the wealth generated to be transferred to his son.

My dad died. Classic start to a funny story. He was buried in a small village in Sussex. I was really close to my dad so I visited his grave a lot. I still do. [DON’T WORRY, IT GETS FUNNIER.]
I always took flowers and my mum visited a lot and she always took flowers and my grandparents were still alive then and they always took flowers. My dad’s grave frequently resembled a solid third place at the Chelsea Flower Show.
Nice but I felt bad for the guy buried next to my dad. He NEVER had flowers. Died on Christmas Day aged 37, no one left him flowers and now there’s a pop-up florist in the grave next door. So I started buying him flowers. I STARTED BUYING FLOWERS FOR A DECEASED MAN I’D NEVER MET.

Long thread on one of my conversations with @Chinmayi in the recording studio.

2012, first time I try getting in touch with Chinmayi through my dad to sing a song for my debut movie (which unfortunately never took off). 18 then, I know nothing about the industry.
5 songs were completed. Leading director. Entire album had lyrics by VM sir. I wanted to see if Shankar Mahadevan and Chinmayi would be available and interested to sing on the track.
Aunty (Chinmayi’s mom) was very sweet to dad. She said she will convey the request to Chinmayi and that we didn’t have to worry. She will do a fab job.

Cut to recording studio. @Chinmayi comes in. I meet her in person for the first time.
