I feel a sort of fury as I read this because it comes from Ian F***ing Warren who worked with UKIP to try & transfer the poorer labour vote to them.

Then with Labour.

Then UKIP/ Leave EU using above data

But the message is sound. Maybe he makes amends theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Before I say more about the excellent advice he gives I want to say something directly to Ian Warren, data scientists, pollsters, political strategist, Zuckerberg, Nix.

People aren’t just fascinating social experiments/Petri dish

They suffer, often badly from political acts
3/. None more so in the U.K. than Brexit when the poorest are being placed most at risk not least because of the “success” of your “political” experiments where you engaged their fears to persuade them to vote
4/. If you have any decency you would be donating your time for nothing in contrition.

Because, in my book, you have a lot to put right.

Maybe this article was a start

Let me know if you want to donate your time for free

I have some GOOD use for you

Now that is off my chest
5/. “What’s going on here?” they say. “Why don’t people know what no deal means?” they complain. “Aren’t they watching Newsnight? Are they stupid?”

No. People aren’t stupid. As they say in poker circles, if you’re looking around the table and wondering who’s the mug, it’s you.”
6/ “People get on with their lives without the Today programme. They’re not reading that 124-page report on no deal. They’re not watching when you take to the stage to deliver a speech to a packed room at a thinktank in Whitehall.”
7/. “Nobody’s watching except those you don’t need to persuade”

I think this is very very true.
8/. “So don’t be surprised when the majority of the electorate either don’t know what no deal means or, worse, think it’s going to be OK. It’s not their fault that your campaign has spent the best part of two years speaking over their heads.”
9
“Delivering vertical messages from an elite source direct to individuals is no longer effective
The trick now is for easily consumable (campaign) messages to be transported ...horizontally between people in their social networks..requiring an altogether different skill set.”
10/
If we’re going to effectively communicate the dangers of no deal, we are going to need to employ techniques that identify the target audiences we need to reach.
11/

“More importantly, the message we carry needs to be less about clever debating points and more about identifying the emotional triggers that inspire people to carry the message for us.”

Now. Listen up.
12/.

“Words of two syllables at most. Messages of 10 words or fewer. Less top-down elite framing and more peer-to-peer exposure to simple, clear messages. “

He says some parties in the EUs took note of his advice

Which ones paid him?
I hope they guarded their membership data.
13/. Sounds like something from the CA songbook, doesn’t it?

Doesn’t mean to say it is wrong.

More that it has to deployed ethically. Truth matters.

Fuelling fear and division has resulted in a cruel price in our democracy

We need to fertilise something MUCH better, stronger
