I was sat 14th in the world.

I had two free transfers.

I had everything in place to reach the top 10 in the world by the end of the GW.

...then FOMO got to me!

A thread of what I'm trying to learn from last season's rise and fall and why this picture still haunts me!

I've had a few people lately asking bout my great start to last season. I thought I'd make a thread on what went right at the start of the season and what I believe I did "wrong" that turned it for the worse and how I can hopefully learn from it, and maybe you can as well!?

GW1. Just ahead of the Charity Shield game I remember just saying "f*ck it! Liverpool and City are by far the two best teams in the league, let's just get six of them in!" And I did. Starting Mendy and AWB which I remember some people benched.

GW2. Ignoring the media rumours of Aguero's injury and sticking to the plan and captaining him in the rotation with Salah was key this GW, also sticking to plan and rolling the transfer.

GW3. I did my two transfers as early as the Sunday before. Alonso were proving that he could still produce under Sarri. Ings looked like a value pick (should have gone Jimenez here obviously.) ARM was now in full effect!

GW4. This one was really important! I did a quite unconventional move due to the injury to Richarlison. The obvious pick at the time was Walcott. I did a double swap for a -4 of Hazard and Fraser even though I placed Fraser on the bench. I also sold Mané in the process...

...even though he was still firing. I lost one point doing this this GW. But who knows what moves I would have ended up doing if I didn't do them now!?

GW5. This is where last GW's transfers paid off and I really shot up the rankings! With Fraser and Hazard combining for 39 points alone! I suddenly found myself inside the top 1k!😱

GW6. Mendy was injured and the stats were showing that Wolves were letting in more goals than they should and that Doherty were bombing forward. Due to an own goal and the lack of CS he was now 4.4m. I could now afford Maddison who looked promising.

GW7. The Doherty move pays off! Also rolling the transfer again and I'm in real nosebleed territory!

GW8. 14th in the world, what the hell am I doing now!? Everyone around me now have Kane! I know I want to captain Hazard away to So'ton but no, FOMO gets the better of me. In a double move I get Kane in for this one GW and the rest is history...

After this GW I lost my way really. I tried to go "back to the basics" rolling transfers playing safe and I got caught one tranafer behind. I tried to play agressively I did the wrong moves. What really did me in the end was Salah over christmas and being late on the United boys

I ended up at a respectable 16k finish, but this season will always for me be one of "what could have been"...

What I've learned: the things I did "right" was I picked players not based on just stats or the eye test but a combination. I did chose quite safely but wasn't afraid to do some unconventional moves. FOMO got to me and I feel I never recovered.

Don't know if anyone is interested in reading this but it's just as much a reminder to myself that I actually do know how to play this game. Trust your gut, the stats and don't let the FOMO get you! And never ever captain Kane at home to a "lesser" side!😂
