It seems like Dr. Shadee would like you to believe that this was the case.
Unfortunately, for him, he was unable to provide any evidence that the scholars of the past said this. More importantly, their actions prove the opposite!
These come in the form of disconnected reports from Ibn Abi Zayd, Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdadi, and Al-Qadhi `Iyadh.
I was hoping that Dr. Shadee would stick to his standards and not accept disconnected reports that were attributed to scholars of the past.
Sufyan bin Uyayna started collecting hadiths when he was 10 according to Al-Ramahurmuzi. Was his knowledge tested by teachers before accepting him?
This was not the case. Hadiths were taught to all.
"It is better than a jewel! Better than a pearl! Better than a ruby! Better than all the Dunya!" (Al-Muhadith Al-Fasil 1/587)
He didn't say, "It is a misguidance," but taught hadiths to all!
Of course, the conflict with what Allah says, "The month of Ramadan, in which the Qur'an was revealed, a GUIDANCE to man..." 2:185
Am I saying that we don't need scholars? No.
But to claim that hadith is a misguidance is a terrible view to hold and the Ulama of the Salaf are free from such a statement.
Of course! What kind of religion would Islam be if knowledge was only accessible to the clergy?
Pope Innocent III declared translator of the Bible as heretics. I hope we won't see the same in Islam.
In reality, he had terrible grammar at least until the age of 15... and yet, he was still taught hadiths!
