please, please stop taking & sharing pictures and videos of traumatized children experiencing the state violence of family separation.
absolutely do not try to tell me we need to humanize them to change hearts and minds. the people who aren’t sure latinx children are fully human won’t have their minds changed by footage of a child crying because she was ripped out of her mother’s arms by the gestapo.
we wouldn’t have to “humanize” the people being treated this way if they hadn’t been so fully dehumanized by the rampant white supremacy in our political discourse. push back against their dehumanization at the source & stop reproducing tragedy porn.
the fact that this argument revolves mostly around images of children is very telling. images of black and brown adults don’t tug at white heartstrings. we shouldn’t need pictures of kids in cages to know what is being done to human beings of all ages is wrong.
