Might show some domestic audiences that the UK is serious about Brexit. It shows every other country how fundamentally unserious this Government is to voluntarily not attend meetings which may be influential.

I suspect the US won't be inviting us to attend any of their meetings where they determine security or economic policy #SpecialRelationship

Equally suspect civil servants with Brussels facing roles are deeply unimpressed with this empty posturing

Today's long twitter discussion on Conservative anti no-deal rebels perhaps best summarised in one tweet.

Right now I'd say chances are roughly no-deal 45%, extension and election 40%, revised deal 15%.
I come back to my earlier thought that the anti no-deal plan is probably voting against no-deal in Sept, but waiting until Oct for any confidence vote or similar - that way strengthening the case by saying the Gov failed to follow the will of Parliament
Another of many possibilities - how about if the Gov itself proposes an election in early Sept, for mid-Oct? Needs two thirds majority, but Labour would have to support, and gets rid of the Parliament problem for a few weeks. Gamble on Johnson being very short lived PM though

Returning to the story earlier this week about the UK withdrawing from EU meetings, I now have some grounds to suspect the reasoning for this is to deliberately restrict meetings between EU and UK officials, thus control the UK-EU narrative more closely theguardian.com/politics/2019/…
Imposing control over UK-EU meetings is in keeping with the narrative of control from Number 10, that everything must be kept within the overall narrative. It is suggested, in a nod to @campbellclaret, that this is based on the success of the first Blair government
@campbellclaret In reality the desire for strong Number 10 control of Brexit negotiations is actually doubling down on what the previous PM did, and has the same problems - we require a genuine team effort of all departments not a secretive top-down process
