Harry Reid, former majority leader of the Senate, thinks the president has something to say about the filibuster! nytimes.com/2019/08/12/opi…
Also, you have to love this. He doesn't even attempt a high-minded justification of his caucus's decision to abolish the filibuster for nominees in 2013. Instead he defends it by saying it left fewer vacancies for Trump to fill.
But Trump would have had the same trouble filling vacancies as Obama if the filibuster were still in place! And it's questionable McConnell could have mustered 50 votes for repeal in 2017-18 had Reid forborne from doing so in '13.
Wait, it gets better. He then offers a high-minded defense of LEAVING THE FILIBUSTER IN PLACE for other votes in 2013--the opposite of what this piece is supposed to be arguing for. He tries to accuse the Republicans of hypocrisy while committing it himself.
Then he describes the Republicans' doing the same thing he did--abolishing the filibuster when it obstructed them from confirming judges--as symptomatic of a "fever."
End of rant.
