1) If you think Brexit solution is [insert party name] you're almost certainly wrong.

2) If you think Brexit solution is to pull together likeminded MPs of *all* parties, you're almost certainly right.

Anyone who insists on 1) while standing in the way of 2) is a hindrance.
For instance, John McDonnell (Ruling out GNU): "I think we'd form a minority government, seek to implement our manifesto and we'd expect the other opposition parties and other MPs to vote for those policies and if they don't we'll go back to the country."

An intriguing thought:
Jeremy Corbyn may want to be World King (sorry, I just can't get over Boris Johnson's early description of his own ambitions) and hold a GE after that, but...
To become WK he needs 50%+1 of MPs
To get a GE under the FTPA he needs 66% of MPs.
One may be very difficult but possible, the other impossible. Why? Because why would Labour MPs vote for a GE *after* JC is in power? Their guy is WK. A GE puts that at risk. What's the incentive? And why would MPs from other parties risk a GE that could give BJ a majority?
They know remain is divided. If BJ can whip a frenzy of anger at the prospect of losing Brexit, he can sweep the BP vote.

And you can bet anything JC knows this. So he can be WK, try for an election, then when that fails he can say "oopsie, guess I'm your PM until 2022 then..."

I've just written the most spine-chilling 1,000 words about Brexit! It covers Parliamentary sovereignty, and how our rights and protections will be put at risk by leaving the EU. I'm sure I had less white hair a couple of hours ago. Here's a taster. the rest will be in my book...
Here's a second little bit from the same section, which is now 1,500 words long. I have to clear my head for a bit before tackling the next piece for writing...

We have an interesting cards-on-table situation developing now. Corbyn has made his "make me PM or suffer a no deal Brexit" threat, everyone else has weighed in. Other options (such as Harriet Harmon) look to be *theoretical* runners.
So if the VONC never happens, or it does but Corbyn fluffs the chance to become World King while at the same time muddying the waters enough so that nobody else can form a GNU, then it's going to be 100% on his head.
After all, he's the only one insisting on crowning himself. Everyone else trying to find solutions to avoid no deal is suggesting people other than themselves as GNU leader.

Out now: Analysis of Jan Will and me on how the power balance in the EP was affected by the bazar of parties, i.e. parties switching their group affiliation in the EP or choosing which party group to join in the first place. /1
Main conclusions:

First, contrary to common wisdom, most of the new parties joined groups of the centre, not the EU-sceptic or populists groups. Biggest winner was the @RenewEurope. Most of the gains compared to old ALDE came from new 'entrepreneur parties' (@joseflentsch) /2

There’s no majority for any specific Brexit variant in the Commons.

About 100 MPs want No Deal
200 MPs want the Deal that’s on the table
200 MPs want some non specified 🦄 Brexit
100 MPs want to Remain
So “just get on with it!” is a useless demand.

Get on with *what version* of Brexit exactly?

A majority in this parliament needs to get to 320. It's been repeated so often that it has become a truth—that there is a majority for a soft Brexit in parliament.

Here's why that's almost certainly not the case.

Let's start with the Labour Party (245 MPs).

Soft Brexit is the position of the leadership (see JC letter to TM 6/2).

But there are at least 60 strong backers of a people's vote in the PLP & maybe 5 who want a harder Brexit.

So Labour brings max 180 MPs to soft Brexit.

What would the SNP do?

Well, Scotland voted to Remain, and yesterday Sturgeon said: "preferably asking for a longer extension to put the issue back to voters".

So don't count on any SNP support for soft Brexit
