MAGNIFICENT and STUNNING Nellaiappar Temple is. 😱 it took me 3.5 hours to go around once. Again 2 hrs in the evening. Built by pandya king Nidraseer Nedumaran. A padalpetra sthalam. While the gopuram isn't tall, the area it covers is 14 acres. #WalkToTemple so overwhelmed. 😍 
Apart from Shri Nellaiappar and Kanthimathi sannidhi, we have nellai govindar, Kuberalinga, Agni Sabapathi, Thirumoola mahalingam, Gananatha Dakshinamurthy, Agasthiyar, Kapila, Suradeva, Nayanmars and several others.
The beauty of TN temples is that, from Early Pandya to Late Nayakas, every dynasty through history have contributed and protected these temples. The magnificent mantapas & corridors.

The musical celebration in stone dedicated to bagawan Shiva, over 1300 yrs old. The 3 types of pillars here: shruti type produces the basic notes, the laya type produces Taalam (beats) and Gana type produces basic tunes of classical raga .words cant describe the beauty.
Shiva performs 5 types of thandava 5 Sabhas (hall of dance). Brahma Thandavam in Thamira Sabha (copper) here in Nellaiappar. the others being ananda thandavam in porsabhai (Golden),Chidambaram, Sundara Thandavam in vellisabha (silver), Asaba thandavam I'm chitrasabha, coutrallam

more than 50 inscriptions are there in this temple. from as early as Veera Pandiyan , Kulothunga chola, Sangili marthanda varman and several others. It's in Grantha, tamil, telugu, kannada. the inscriptions have to protected better.
The temple is well maintained, for its size. Uzhavarapani, a culture of cleaning and performing seva by devotees started by Appar (Thirunaavukuarasar) , a 7th century tamil saint, poet..still happens today! It was heartening to see kids be part of it.

Papanasanathar , a Shiva Kshetra (The one who destroys paapa, sins) also know as Surya Kshetra , over 1000 yrs old. about 50 kms from Tirunelveli. Beautiful thamarabarani flows down next to the temple. #WalkToTemple
