EXC: Government adverts telling EU citizens how to register to stay in the UK after Brexit have been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority for being "misleading"

Its adverts claimed "All you need is your passport or ID card and to complete an online form"

The ASA say that advice was wrong and misleading and have banned the adverts

Home Office conceded to the ASA that "it was not possible to include all aspects of the application process in a short ad"

ASA said the ad breached the code on two counts and banned it: "The ad must not be broadcast again in the form complained about"

Hear Theresa May has recommended in her resignation honours list peerages for:

– her chief of staff Gavin Barwell
– deputy chief of staff JoJo Penn
– political secretary Stephen Parkinson
– press aide Liz Sanderson
Lords Leader's office directing me to No10 for this. No10 declined to comment. Barwell and Penn also declined to comment. Parkinson and Sanderson did not respond.

NEW: Boris Johnson’s women aides have expressed fury that they are being paid less than male colleagues

– one adviser is threatening to take the government to an employment tribunal
– several have lodged complaints about their salary packages

I am not surprised by this. We have known for months that this is all just total bullshit. Applying for settled status works well for many (let's forget for a minute that it is an application), but there are also 1000s of cases where it doesn't. 2/
Yet instead of finally taking some ownership, all the Govt and Home Office do is spin and fudge. That has been made significantly worse with Patel's recent announcement about freedom of movement. The impact is real. And it is happening already. This has to end. Now. 3/

THREAD (1) When the likes of Hannan feel the need to 'brush off' something so critical to the right-wing/neo-con #Brexit wet dream, we find digging a little deeper to be useful. After all, ground breaking 'shadow trade deals' with right-wing US think tanks is no small fish.
(2) In fact, given the growing negativity surrounding the #Brexit negotiations, compounded by the Govts' own damning economic analysis, one would have thought Hannan and Fox et al, would be shouting from the roof tops about their bespoke 'shadow US-UK trade deal.' Wouldn't you?
(3) The problem for our intrepid trade deal making duo, as almost always, is to be found in the detail; just what are, and who is, behind these neo-con US think tanks? Perhaps Daniel would enlighten us?
