Mexico had >3,000 murders in June. 17,065 #murders during the first six months of the year, though this is likely a 20% underestimate. Yet, since 1972, #Mexico has just 1 gun store in the country, and the most power rifles are 22 caliber.
Mexico has a murder rate that is six times our #murder rate. Only about 1% of Mexicans legally own a gun.

If you think that the @nytimes is missing mass public shootings,
1) Identify the cases
2) show that they don't fit the definition.
If you think that the @nytimes is missing cases, as our research notes, given that few states had right-to-carry laws, the true rate of attacks in gun-free zones is likely even higher than we note. But if you don't like the NYT list, use our data for the later period.

.@shannonrwatts, if u read More Guns, Less Crime (Univ of Chicago Press, 2010 3rd ed), u would know that the most vulnerable people benefit the most from owning guns: the most likely victims of violent crime (poor blacks) & those weaker physically (women & elderly).

Proud Boys are an interstate white supremacist gang getting more brazen & violent by the day.

Police often refuse to take them seriously, & frequently show them support both tacit & overt.

It's an object lesson in the racism & brokenness of gang policing in the US.
Some background: "gang" terminology in modern US policing has always at its heart been rhetoric used to justify law enforcement policy that specifically and violently targets black and Latinx youth and undermines their constitutional right to freedom of association.
Take gang injunctions, for example.

You don't have to be convicted of a crime to receive one, but you can go to jail for violating one.

For folks coming out of communities pathologized as gang-friendly, these orders are effectively orders of isolation and house arrest.

What happens when counties abuse federal funding in acts which constitute major human rights violations and a pattern of federal felonies?
