Just had my second election law class! We explored the role of voters in our democracy, contrasting direct & representative democracy; examined different theories of democracy; and began discussing the five different meanings of the “right to vote,” starting w/ voter eligibility
2/3 We had a great discussion over the extent to which elected officials should follow the will of their constituents in a functioning democracy.
3/3 One thing I especially enjoy is linking election law to students’ other classes, like administrative law. We talked about relationship between voting & nondelegation doctrine, which lets unelected officials make policy, as well as political insulation of independent agencies
