I know I’m relatively new to Congress, but I took civics in school and this isn’t how it works - at least not according the Constitution. (1/6)
Per Article I, Section 1, we (the House and Senate) pass the laws. (2/6)
Per Article I, Section 7, if the President approves of our legislation, he signs it.

If not, he sends it back to us (the House or the Senate, depending upon origination), and we either vote in both Houses to override his objections/veto or we go back to work legislating. (3/6)
Per Article II, Section 3, the President is welcome to provide ideas and measures for our consideration, but again, per Article I, Section 1, we write the laws as an independent branch of government. (4/6)
The House of Representatives has passed meaningful, bipartisan gun violence legislation - H.R.8 and H.R. 1112 - and the Senate should take them up for a vote. (5/6)
If our bills aren’t good, let them fail in the Senate.

But I suspect the @senatemajldr is more fearful that they will pass in which case per the Constitution (see tweets 1-4), the President then gets to decide whether to support our bills or not. (6/6)
