More trouble for Boris. Lots of Tory backbenchers in a 1922 Committee meeting with the PM now just cheered Edward Leigh and Damian Green for speaking up for the 21 rebels, and booed Dan Kawczynski for attacking them.
I'm told Boris is now explaining his alternative Irish backstop idea to the 1922, an all-Ireland agrifood zone, by quoting Ian Paisley Snr: "Our people may be British but our cows are Irish”.
In reply to backbenchers demanding the whip is restored to the 21, I’m told Boris repeatedly said he “can’t undermine the chief”. Tory MPs say it was the PM who instructed the Chief Whip to do it.

There is a growing misunderstanding afoot. The PM can’t just call an election any more. Not Boris, nor any other. That hasn’t been possible since the passage of the Fixed-term Parliaments Act (2011). Now if they want one, two thirds of all MPs have to agree first. (1)
That’s 434 of them. If 217 MPs object, no general election, and this Parliament limps on until June 9, 2022. Boris could indeed table a dissolution vote under the Act if he fears legislation that blocks No Deal is about to be passed, and insist the people should decide that. (2)
But under any calculation, he needs a lot of Labour votes - and therefore Jeremy Corbyn’s support - to succeed. Would Corbyn really fancy his chances against Boris, who will paint it as Leave v Remain again, with Labour’s Brexit policy such a confused mess? (3)

Breaking: Boris Johnson begins his Breixt renegotiation with a letter to Donald Tusk. In short, the backstop must go, completely.
PM proposes the backstop should be replaced with alternative arrangements in time for the end of the transition period. Here’s the new bit: he offers to look at new “commitments” if that doesn’t prove fully possible.
But, and a big but: those commitments must not clash with three major objections that he lays out to the backstop - on sovereignty, the destination of the future relationship, and undermining the GFA.

Breaking: US National Security Advisor John Bolton says the US and UK could do some mini trade deals, sector by sector, within a year of Brexit (1)
“You could pursue a bigger sector that might take longer, or you could pursue some smaller sectors that could be done quite quickly” (2)
Bolton named “different manufacturing sectors, industry, automobile sectors” as areas for early deals, but financial services would take longer: “That’s my message. We’re with you” (3)

In the column, I draw the distinction between negative feedback systems, and positive feedback systems, which will be important as we go along.
A negative feedback system is like your thermostat. If it gets too hot or too cold, your thermostat tells the furnace "Stop doing what you're doing now, and do the other thing"--either turn on, or turn off.

It's not the first time someone has offered, but he always cleans up back at the squat. He always wears some other man's sweat on his skin the whole way home, makes himself live with it, with himself.

He should do the same tonight.
And he's trying so hard to get the words off his tongue - "My sister will be worried", "I have to be somewhere early tomorrow", "I don't want to call a cab at three in the morning" - but instead he turns his face into Hank's neck, breathing him in.

Another day at the palace means another day to conform to their standards. This was never how Joohyun wanted to live her life. Paparazzis everywhere and everyone updating on her life. The only way to keep them out was to be cold towards them.
The highlight of her everyday was helping out in the orphanage run by nuns in the outskirts of the city. Where she goes by the name ‘Irene’.

It is where she becomes herself without the worry of people following her every move.

None of us are mind readers. When you want someone to know how you feel or what you want; tell them.
In my late twenties I learned the true value of being clear with my communication when it came to fulfilling my needs. Within a range of different contexts I often underplayed how I felt or what I wanted, and would foolishly regularly rely on other people to initiate change.
Once upon a time I was the person who would never ask for a pay rise, in the hope my manager would recognise my good work and suggest it. I wouldn’t speak up when I felt discontentment in relationships, and would just wish that my partner would figure it out.

How does an African business start? We keep focusing on why they fail but not how they start. Even when we talk about successes, the conversation is largely anecdotal and not scientific or with any rigor. We get caught up in terms and buzzwords, notice I didn’t say “startup”?
Nobody wants to fail. The greatest open secret about not failing is that it largely depends on how you start. A lot of focus on starting is about ideas and money when it should be about people, processes and regulation. A lot of these things are hardly considered in advance by us
We always believe we will tackle business problems when we meet them but a lot of business problems in Africa are not new. The real problem is that people have very little documented precedence to learn from. Most people get information and even ideas from hearsay and “gist”.
