1/ random thread, on locks and keys. since humans have existed, we have been finding ways to lock things away.

this is a nuremberg chest from the 16th century, which secured its contents using an ornate set of interlocking mechanisms opened by sets of keys operated in tandem
2/ "security" is to put things inside larger boxes with thicker walls and more keys.

it's been so ingrained into our consciousness to secure things with locks and keys that as we go from a world of *things* to a world of *ideas*, we still look for boxes to shove shit into.
3/ but how do you store ideas in a box with locks and keys?

i'm always so fascinated by how people react to cryptocurrency - because for most, it's their first interaction with digital locks and keys.

public private key encryption is mind-blowingly cool!
4/ but sadly most people never learn to use these tools. i'm interested in how we *build* new types of locks and keys, but it's no good if we can't *teach* people to use these tools.

i really worry that we are missing the much larger point.

more boxes. more locks. more keys.
5/ that's not what i'm here for.

i'm long @casa, @cryptokeepkey, @Trezor, @Anchorage, @FireblocksHQ, @OPENDIME

short the custodians and their boxes and their locks.

who is your favorite company building and teaching users how to secure their own assets?
