1/n Non-shocking graph of the day: state-level political orientation (an averaged index of partisanship + ideological self-placement by year) predicts average annual 'white privilege' Google search interest

(note: all predictors here are state-level annual means)
2/n A political orientation x year interaction improves the model fit. As you can see, the trend towards significance (ignoring 2006, which is interesting) appears to begin in 2012.
3/n I included the mean annual standard-deviation of family income as a rough measure of income inequality (the idea being that greater inequality--> greater interest in privilege). All of its variance, though, is explained by political orientation (because..)
(because bluer/more liberal states = greater income inequality)
3/n Here's another for 'Implicit stereotype/bias'. A similar-sized effect for political orientation, and a substantial but noisy gender effect.
4/n Two-way interaction again shows that effect of political orientation began to increase in the 2012-2014 region.
