1/n Whites in states with greater 'white privilege' Google search interest are--perhaps naturally--significantly more likely to 'strongly agree' that whites enjoy advantages due to their skin color. The effects of search interest are stronger in more liberal/democrat states...
and/or states with larger populations of white digital news consumers

(note: title of each individual graph refers to the placement of BOTH search interest and white digital news consumption)
3/n The size of a states' white twitter population is also independently predictive of a 'strongly agree' response, net of state-level white political orientation and other variables

1/n Data from an unpublished 2016 survey experiment shows that white participants assigned to read an article about whites' declining majority status (racial threat condition) did not react with greater Trump support (if anything, attitudes moved in the opposite direction).
2/n Nor was the (null) effect conditional on party identification.
@epkaufm I know there are other studies that attest to the relationship. But might it be less robust than previously acknowledged?

I've been accused in the last day or so of being a white women talking about Indian history. This mistakes a key point: My authority to speak about specific aspects of the Indian past does not rest on the color of my skin or on my gender.
I speak about Indian history as a trained scholar. We've been over this ad nauseam - I read Sanskrit, Indo-Persian, Braj Bhasha, Hindi & Urdu. I hold a PhD in South Asian Studies. I'm an Assistant Professor of History at a research university. I publish peer-reviewed scholarship.
