Not true!

In Texas, voters ages 18-69: your ID may be expired up to four years and it’s still eligible at the polls!

Voters 70 and older: you may use ID that has been expired for ANY length of time!
That’s not to say you shouldn’t get your REAL ID now- it’s one less thing you’ll have to fight poll workers about on Election Day.

But also, spread the word: YOU CAN STILL VOTE IN TEXAS WITHOUT ID.

It’s true. You just have to submit a reasonable impediment declaration.
You can fully expect voter ID states to use the REAL ID changeover to confuse people about their ID requirements, and keep them from showing up at the polls.

COLORADO AND UTAH ARE THE TWO STATES THAT REQUIRE YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE OR STATE ID TO BE CURRENT.

Get your REAL ID asap.
But remember your drivers license is not your only voter ID!

Colorado: passport, government agency photo ID, pilots license, military ID, Certificate of Degree of Indian or Alaskan Native Blood, Medicare/Medicaid card, certified US birth cert, student, veteran, or tribal ID, or
Utah:

Voter ID is current UT driver's license, current ID card issued by UT or an entity of U.S., current UT concealed weapon permit, current US passport, Tribal ID (photo not required)

OR two of the following items that show the voter’s name and residency:
Remember: any state that requires voter ID must legally provide a number of options for proving your identity.

NO ID DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN NO VOTE.

Do everything you can to have a valid drivers license, state ID, or passport. But spread the truth about voter ID options.
Voter ID laws don’t suppress the vote by making people ineligible.

VOTER ID LAWS SUPPRESS THE VOTE BY MAKING THE ACT OF VOTING SO COMPLICATED AND TIME-CONSUMING THAT VOTERS GIVE UP.

Research the ID laws in your state. Spread the word to everyone you know. Start preparing now.
Sorry for all the yelling. But this shit is important. And states that have voter ID laws are not going to help you figure out what you need- the extra research time is a feature, not a bug.

You can vote. You should vote. Promise me you will vote. Change the voter ID narrative.
If you live in a voter ID state, your voting plan should include backup ID options.

In Texas, I sent people to the polls with literally every document they could find. TAKE IT ALL. And take a printout of the list of acceptable forms of ID from your state government’s web site.
That’s important since many states have a law about cell phones in polling places. And you’re gonna have to educate some poll workers. Escalate that shit. Channel your inner Karen. Ask to speak to a supervisor.

WALK INTO YOUR POLLING PLACE WITH THE CONFIDENCE OF A WHITE WOMAN.
But most importantly, remember that if you’ve taken the time to research voter ID options, and you’re prepared to educate those poll workers, you are not the average voter.

If you have a job that allows it, take Election Day off. Go to the polls. Be the voter info desk.
