This is...not how anything in the Senate works. Let's go through it.

Filibuster: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver via @YouTube
First off, there were ABSOLUTELY Dutch pirates...

They were actually pretty famous, known as the Sea Beggars.

It IS true that the Senate’s arcane rules have never been more popular.

The Senate’s 44 standing rules, usually obscured by precedents or made irrelevant by routine waivers, do actually matter.

Of these, the Fillibuster is probably less significant than debate time use.
Recently, Democrat demand used this time to force the Senate to run the full 30 hours of post-cloture time for confirmations...without being forced to actually speak during it.
Today’s Senate is so dysfunctional for reasons that have NOTHING to do with the filibuster...it's dysfunctional because nobody uses the normal operating procedure — considering bills, offering amendments, and voting.
If you want to get mad about the Senate, get mad that they only work 2.5 days a week.

That's NOT a typo.
Also, it's kinda amazing that @LastWeekTonight didn't recognize what @RandPaul was filibustering...it was drone strikes.

But that's pretty standard for left-wing hacks.
It pretty much seems like Oliver is just mad that the fillabuster blocked left-wing projects.
Also, Oliver just flat out lied about the Green New Deal not getting a vote.

It ABSOLUTELY got a vote...and every Senate Democrat REFUSED to vote on it.

@LastWeekTonight LIED about this.
