Vaping is a dramatically safer alternative to cigarettes.

Many thousands of lives are being saved by smokers substituting innovative, high-tech alternatives like Juul and iQos for cigarettes.
A tiny number of people who have been using vapes illegally to coat their lungs with CBD oil have been harmed.

More people are killed by riding bicycles than by vaping.
The Trump admin is planning to ban vaping.

Meanwhile cigarettes, which KILL YOU, will remain legal.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Governments are stupid. Markets are smart.

1) is not a policy issue—it’s a business issue. @HawleyMO is making a category error. This is not a matter for government.

It’s fine for policymakers to be discussing policy matters, but we have to maintain bright line distinctions between policy matters and business matters.
And this is a pretty fundamental distinction @HawleyMO should know and understand, regardless of where he went to school. Big degrees from Ivy League schools have NEVER guaranteed sound policy—in fact, usually the opposite.
Hence Buckley’s “I should sooner live in a society governed by the first two thousand names in the Boston telephone directory than in a society governed by the two thousand faculty members of Harvard University.”

Sohrab wants to live in a Christian theocracy. So do I. But it’s not possible now. I look forward to it someday. For now, the best we can do is hope for liberty.
But even if we Christians got to live in a Christian theocracy, we’d still disagree about the rules. Some would want to ban alcohol. Some would ban Game of Thrones.

Again, liberty is the best we can do.

For Epstein to commit suicide under these circumstances required the complicity of a number of people. Incompetence doesn’t explain it. Sign me up for the conspiracy.
And by the way, I doubt the Clintons had anything to do with this. There are many more powerful people than the Clintons who had everything to lose. The Clintons were likely spectators to this.
And the chain of the complicit will extend all the way to the medical examiners office, local law enforcement, federal law enforcement, etc.

13 million US adults vape. Almost all are ex-smokers. Recent survey of 750 vapers found that <10% write their representatives. I'm writing now. FDA declared a teen vaping "epidemic" in 2018 based on data from the National Youth Tobacco Survey...
Raw data from that 2018 NYTS survey were just released. 2.3% of under-age non-smoking teens vaped more than 20 days/month in 2018 (so may plausibly OWN an e-cigarette). No under-age person should vape, but this "public health crisis" has been blown out of proportion...
...And anti-vaping alarums continue, sounding increasingly shrill. e.g., The FDA recently issued a press release claiming 3-4 seizures per year may-or-may-not be associated with vaping. 3-4 out of 13 million? The highest health authority in the land sounding alarms...

Unacceptable on what ethical basis? @fdatobacco surely recognises the reality-based world of youth doing risky things, whatever FDA wants? When kids who would otherwise have smoked take to #vaping instead, there is a clear public health benefit. Preventing that causes harm. 1/7
There is something disturbing about this argument, beyond the obvious indifference to the health and wellbeing of young people from more disadvantaged backgrounds. It’s an attempt to simplify the world by declaring a moral posture rather than deal with the world as it is. 2/7
And why do this? Because @FDATobacco’s favoured #vaping policies - e.g. banning e-liquid flavors and bullying @JUULvapor - are impossible to justify if #ecigs are reducing youth smoking. So that potential benefit can’t be recognised. 3/7
