A protester in the Senate gallery appears to have just thrown some red liquid substance onto the floor. It hit Sen. Hurtado and landed on some of the senators’ desks. The senators have left the floor.
Other reporters heard a protester shout something about the blood of dead babies as the red liquid was thrown onto the Senate floor. I don’t think I’ve ever seen something this inappropriate in my nearly 9 years covering the #caleg.
Now the Senate sergeants are clearing everyone off the floor. The gallery has been emptied too.
A CHP officer posted outside the pro Tem’s office says they are in the process of making an arrest. One female. They are taking a sample of the liquid to test it to see if it’s red food coloring or actual blood.
Sources are telling me the red liquid thrown onto the Senate floor and struck @Senator_Hurtado was menstrual blood. Joining @CapRadioNews live now with latest.
Caught a glimpse as the door opened, and there is crime scene tape strung across the Senate floor.
Per @Steve_Glazer, SIX senators were struck by the menstrual blood.

@SenToniAtkins And here's the statement from @SenateRepCaucus leader @ShannonGroveCA, who's been sympathetic to the concerns raised by opponents of the vaccine bills:
@SenToniAtkins @SenateRepCaucus @ShannonGroveCA JUST IN — @CHP_HQ issues first formal statement on the incident in the state Senate this afternoon: "A demonstrator in the Senate Gallery stood up and threw a feminine hygiene device containing what appeared to be blood, onto the Senate floor."
@SenToniAtkins @SenateRepCaucus @ShannonGroveCA @CHP_HQ .@CHP_HQ says the woman who threw the "feminine hygiene device containing what appeared to be blood" onto the Senate floor this afternoon then walked out of the Gallery into the hallway, where she was arrested for these six charges:
@SenToniAtkins @SenateRepCaucus @ShannonGroveCA @CHP_HQ According to @sacsheriff main jail records, 43-year-old Rebecca Lee Dalelio is in custody with bail set at $10,000 and a first court date of Monday 1:30pm.
