No, hero worship of Snowden isn't warranted. I mean, he is a hero, in the same vein as somebody who, when the building is burning, runs in to save the baby. But that doesn't mean they are good a person outside this singular event. They may be otherwise a complete jerk.
I'm not sure I'd be interested in reading a book about them. Yes, they did a thing, but I suspect that the rest of their story is no more interesting than the average person.
There's a lot of "he's just a SharePoint admin who cheated on an exam". I suppose that's an argument not to hero worship him. On the other hand, that has nothing to do with the technical point, such as NSA keeping a record of every domestic phone call for years.
There's no reason to demonize him, either. I mean, sure, hagiographies can be annoying, but "just a SharePoint admin who cheated" sounds a lot like government messaging aimed at character assassination.
