1) I watched this series. Marie reminded me of too many women to even list. I realized a high number of my friends and acquaintances are rape victims but I don't know a single one whose rapist was prosecuted and sentenced.

2) One day one of our classmates called in the morning. She had been savagely raped, the police found her and took her to the station. Brazil, 1982, perhaps. No rape kit. She called us to pick her up.
3) The rapists stole her car, which was never found. According to her, she spent the whole night afraid the policemen would rape her too. We still lived under a dictatorship. Policemen hated college students.
4) She told us that she felt they were actually registering a report against her, not the rapists. They never tried to catch the guy. She said the same thing Marie told her therapist (which she saw by judge mandate since she was prosecuted for false allegation).
5) Marie was telling the truth. Two years later, the female police officers found such hard proof that not even the sexist dirty copts that victimized Marie could deny: the trophy pictures the rapist took of her ID on her beaten body.
6) So she won the case against the city. All she wanted was an apology. One of the cops apologized. The other turned his back and walked away, probably thinking she deserved it.
7) 6) I wrote an article about this for my publisher. For each Marie, we don't know for sure (and we'll never know), there are about 10 thousand women with different luck. Between the immense majority that doesn't report, those who do but nobody cares ..
8) and those who do, end up in court just to end up being turned into culprits and watch their torturers walk away, that's more or less it.
