I appreciate the recognition that holding the global economy hostage is the wrong thing to do. Let's think through what this implies together.

Why is it wrong to hold the global economy hostage?
"The economy" is a metaphor; you can't hold an abstraction like "the economy" hostage. You hold people hostage. It is wrong to hold people hostage. Specifically, it is wrong to threaten people with poverty if they don't do what you want them to do.
Mind, we have been holding the Iranian economy hostage. The US can't really complain that this is unfair. But developing countries with no dog in this fight have excellent reason to feel this was unfair.
The main thing, though, is that we agree it is wicked and wrong to destroy the commodity that powers the modern world. That is what makes our high standards of life possible.
Why is it more wicked, and more wrong, though, than the #GreenNewDeal?

And if it isn't, shouldn't we be celebrating Iran's bold move to save the planet?
