The environment is a rising issue.
Instead of seizing on an opportunity to be the responsible/responsive party via a sane proposal that doesn't wreck the economy, they're working on restricting the Second Amendment, and depressing their base.
The goal is to maximize the size of a coalition by appealing to the most blocs w/o losing the largest natural base.
A. Restricting a protected right dear to one of the largest segments of your base?
OR...
B. More effective market solution to an issue oppo owns, consistent w/ core ideology?
Plan A, as we've showed you by the numbers, is all downside for the Republican Party. Can't win over as many as they could lose.
Plan B is almost all upside, a risk to no base bloc while potentially appealing to new blocs.
Fear is driving support for Plan A.
