1. GOP is strategically stupid.

The environment is a rising issue.

Instead of seizing on an opportunity to be the responsible/responsive party via a sane proposal that doesn't wreck the economy, they're working on restricting the Second Amendment, and depressing their base.
2. I don't know how many times I can say the same thing, albeit differently. Winning elections is a rather simple equation, just with a lot of different variables.

The goal is to maximize the size of a coalition by appealing to the most blocs w/o losing the largest natural base.
3. Considering the GOP's largest natl. base, which proposal seems more likely to result in a net gain?

A. Restricting a protected right dear to one of the largest segments of your base?

OR...

B. More effective market solution to an issue oppo owns, consistent w/ core ideology?
4. Summarizing...

Plan A, as we've showed you by the numbers, is all downside for the Republican Party. Can't win over as many as they could lose.

Plan B is almost all upside, a risk to no base bloc while potentially appealing to new blocs.

Fear is driving support for Plan A.
5. Hence, the GOP is strategically stupid. Always has been.

The End.
6. @NeilDwyer93 prompted me to amend this thread by noting the proposal via @mattgaetz.

He's from Florida. Republicans down here haven't uniformly stuck their heads up their asses hoping the issue goes away. They've been green since Jeb!

Very good example of a smarter strategy.
